For years, Dodgers catcher Mickey Owen was blamed for a “passed ball” that eluded him for the potential final out of Game 4 of the 1941 World Series against the Yankees. In reality, pitcher Hugh Casey threw a spitball that Tommy Henrich swung on and missed, and Owen had no chance to catch — as Casey admitted AFTER he retired from pitching.
