Phair<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>How dear to my heart was the old-fashioned batter, who scattered line drives from the spring to the fall.<\/p>\n<p>He did not resemble the up-to-date batter, who swings from the heels and misses the ball.<\/p>\n<p>The up-to-date batter, I\u2019m not very strong for; he shatters the ozone with all of his might.<\/p>\n<p>And that is the reason I hanker and long for \u2013<\/p>\n<p>Those who doubled to left, and tripled to right.<\/p>\n<p>The old-fashioned batter,<\/p>\n<p>The eagle-eyed batter,<\/p>\n<p>The thinking-man&#8217;s batter,<\/p>\n<p>Who tripled to right.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/haughtcorner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/jhbatdude.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4\" src=\"https:\/\/haughtcorner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/jhbatdude.jpeg?w=218\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>This poem sums up my feelings about the dumbed-down, strikeout-and-launch-angle-infested approach to baseball offense (and it IS offensive): The Old-Fashioned Batter by George E.
